Bio-Keanu Charles Reeves was born on September 2, 1964 in Beirut, Lebanon. The successful actor is perhaps most widely known for his roles in Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Speed, Point Break and the sci-fi action movie series, The Matrix. Reeves got his acting career into high gear at the young age of nine when he appeared in a theatre production of Damn Yankees. Keanu’s first big studio movie appearance came in the Rob Lowe hockey movie Youngblood where he played a goalie. The actor spent the later portion of the 80’s playing in a multitude of films geared to the teenage audience that included Permanent Record, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure along with the sequel, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Journey. The 1990’s was the actor’s chance to bust away from the teenage reputation as he appeared in huge budget films like Point Break in which he won MTV’s Most Desirable Male in 1992. Reeves also been involved with a number of smaller budget independent films including the 1991 hit My Own Private Idaho.

The 1999 sci-fi action film The Matrix was directed by the Wachowski brothers and produced by Joel Silver. In the Matrix movie, Keanu plays the role of Thomas A. Anderson, a computer programmer who leads a double life as a hacker named Neo. The intense action film went on to produce two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Shot on a 63 million dollar budget, the film brought in over 460 million dollars all around the world. Keanu’s role in the movie called for the actor to perform a number of intense fighting scenes.

For these strenuous action parts, the actor needed to increase his strength, balance and agility to truly pull off the role. The Matrix star took part in a number of martial arts and fighting style  training 5 months in advance to prepare for the demanding role.

Keanu Reeves Workout Fight Training, Matrix

The six foot, one inch tall actor has always stayed in decent shape throughout his career, but for the Matrix role Keanu needed to develop strength and power in key areas to be able to perform certain fight moves with precision. For example, the scene where Keanu bends over backwards to dodge bullets required him to have really strong core muscles. When the actor needed to punch out of a corner and dominate over his enemy he needed to have really speedy hands by practicing jabs and crosses.

Reeves did this by taking small weights and taking a normal boxing stance and jabbed straight forward with his arms while keeping his weight evenly distributed between his feet. During scenes where he had to defeat his enemy using powerful high kicks, he trained so that he could have the most lower body strength as possible. This lower body strength was also great for stunts like jumping across roofs during the filming process. When it came time to film the actor developed a lean and powerful body that helped him through those tough scenes.

Keanu Reeves Diet Fitness Routine

Reeves did not go on a special diet before filming began. The Matrix star has always maintained a healthy balanced diet. Keanu admits some of the foods he eats regularly are chicken, pasta, rice and vegetables. He goes on to report that he eats three healthy meals a day and practices smaller portion control. However, the movie star did report that he enjoys an occasional beer or wine beverage.

Keanu truly broke his teenage boy image when he began The Matrix movie series. Now he is more widely known as the futuristic fighting star because of his roles. With the mixture of fighting styles and exercises he used during his training, it’s  no doubt that the actor can kick some serious enemy butt!
