Tobey Maquire Spiderman Workout and Diet

Superhero Training!–Look up in the sky! It’s a bird, it’s a fly! No, it’s — Spiderman? During the day, Peter Parker is a young, shy boy and social outcast and during the evening or during times of trouble, he’s able turn into a superhero with spider webs coming out of his wrist. He uses his powers to fight crime and must maintain a healthy body to do so! When the comic book superhero was placed on the big screen, actor Toby Maguire was chosen to save the day. Toby, born on June 26, 1975 in Santa Monica California is 5’9’’ admitted to buffing up for the part of Spider Man. His ability to go from one weight to another should be deemed supernatural. Here’s an excerpt of a quick interview conducted by TV Guide Online with Tobey:

TV Guide Online: “You buffed up as Spidey, starved yourself for ‘Seabiscuit’, then re-buffed for ‘Spider-Man 2’. You’re like a yo-yo dieter.

Tobey Maguire: “And, I’m tellin’ ya man, I am so over it! I had something to prove to people when I was cast as ‘Spider-Man.’ I had to be gaunt for ‘Seabiscuit,’ so I made it a personal challenge. But I had nothing to prove with ‘Spider-Man 2,’ so it was torture.”

Well the torture paid off because not only did Tobey look great for the part, he became a millionaire! Spiderman (2002) brought in $114 simply during that first weekend it came out. The gross total amount of income for Spiderman was $821,708,551. Then after that, Spiderman 2 also had a hefty gross profit amount of $783,766,341. That’s not bad for a movie about a man who wears a costume!

From Rags To Riches: Maguire’s Story Toby grew up in a very dirt-poor family. His parents had him at the ages of 18 and 20. His father worked as construction worker and chef and his mother worked as secretary. For a while, his family had to live off of welfare, food stamps and Medi-Cal. His parents separated after just a couple of years and Toby ended up living with his mom, dad, grandparents, aunts and uncles from time to time. After quitting school in ninth grade, Toby decided that he wanted to be an actor. He’s been married since 2007 to Jennifer Meyer and has two children.  Named by PETA as world’s sexiest vegetarian, Toby acted in Seabiscuit (2003), Spider-Man 3 (2007).

Maguire’s Diet & Spiderman Workout Plan

In order to prepare for the first Spiderman movie, Toby followed a low fat and high protein diet of foods like lean meats, veggie burgers, tofu, whoe grains, fruits and nuts.  Junk foods like chips, candy, friend foods, high fructose corn syrup filled foods were not a part of his food intake at all.  He ate every three hours and always drank always made sure he stayed hydrated by keeping a gallon of water near him.

He also completed his Spiderman workout program with personal fitness trainer, Gregory Joujon-Roche. It was for six days a week and about 3.5 hours a day, he would work on cardiovascular exercises, lift weights and do yoga. Through martial arts, cycling and gymnastics his body strength and muscular ability improved tenfold. He would also do his workouts with a huge, oversized ball to focus on specific muscles in his body.

He was able to strengthen in lower body and abdomen. Other exercises included stretching and aerobics. That was particularly important since Spiderman needed to move with ease and flexibility from building to building. In order to add on to his pounds and increase his muscularity, Toby weight lifted, did squats, pull-ups, dips and push-ups.

“I had to prepare my body really hard for the Spiderman movies.” He says. “I had to put on weight and muscle.” Toby Maguire
